멘델스존의 바이올린 협주곡은 op.64 E단조가 널리 알려져 있지만, 어린 시절(13세)에 작곡한 D단조 협주곡이 한 곡 더 존재한다. 유작으로 발표된 후, 100년간 완전히 잊혀져 있었지만, 우연히 예후딘 메뉴힌에게 발견되어, 1952년 그의 초연으로 세상에 알려지며 화제가 된 작품이다. 아카르도가 이 두 개의 명협주곡을 연주하고 있다. 눈부신 테크닉과 소박한 표정의 명곡으로, 우아한 정감이 넘치는 명연이다. 1976년 샤를 뒤투아가 지휘하는 런던 필하모닉과의 협연으로 최초 CD 발매반.
