브람스는 줄리니가 즐겨 다룬 지휘자였으며, 많은 오케스트라와 더불어 훌륭한 녹음을 남겼다.
그러나 빈 필, 그것도 무지크페라인에서 연주하 빈 필의 광채는 음악에 비할 데 없는 풍요로움을 더하면서도 종종 브람스 연주에서 장애로 작용했던 '독일적'인 무게감을 말끔히 털어내고 있다.
줄리니의 템포는 느린 편이지만 긴장감이 떨어지지는 않으며, 각 작품마다 명암을 극명하게 드러내면서 그 안에 담긴 인간 드라마를 진지하게 추구하고 있다.

This set would seem to be self-recommending: a composer, conductor and orchestra perfectly at one – and yet these late recordings of the Italian maestro have never before been gathered in one set. The glow of the Vienna Philharmonic in their own Musikverein lends this music additional richness. Giulini’s tempi by this stage in his life were steady, to be sure, but animated from within. He fills each symphony with human drama, sun and shade from bar to bar. The middle two symphonies must rank among his greatest achievements on record.
