민요만큼 많은 작곡가들에게 영감을 불어넣은 음악도 없다. 특히 영국의 본 윌리엄스가 자국의 많은 민요들을 채집하여 편곡했는데,존 루터 역시 민요에 큰 관심을 두고 채집, 편곡했다.
기교를 부리기보다는 민요의 소박한 느낌을 잘 살린 존 루터의 편곡과 캠브리지 싱어즈의 담백하고 가벼운 울림이 민요 본래의 맛을 잘 살려낸다. 귀에 익은 친근한 선율들이 가슴 한켠에 아스라한 추억을 불러일으킬 음반이다.
